Profit or Prophet?
Many years ago I was introduced to a catholic priest who was operating a business in the south west suburb of Tallaght in Dublin. I was meeting him with a view to getting involved in a business he was operating - processing fresh vegetables for supply to the restaurant industry. The conversation turned to the issue of organic v conventional - he commented that I seemed for interested in prophesy than profit! Funny this, coming from a priest who was clearly interested in the latter - in fairness he was creating employment, wealth and a future in the local community.
The 'cost' of this has to be understood. My opinion is that without 'environmental economics' - the true cost of environmental impact factored in - profit gained from operations is a false profit. We hand the unaccounted for costs to following generations. For holding this 'green' point of view I was labelled a prophet! I sensed a false one at that also.
